ABOUT VERIDIAN AT COUNTY FARM.

Veridian at County Farm is a unique collaboration between THRIVE Collaborative, LLC and Avalon Housing, a non-profit 501(c)(3). It is beautiful 13.59 acre property located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The property is the site of the original County Poor Farm, dating back to 1836, and later home of the Washtenaw County Juvenile Detention center, razed in 2013.

Veridian at County Farm is nestled on County Farm Park with 130 acres of woods, trillium-lined trails, gardens and playgrounds. It is targeted to be one of the nation’s first mixed-income net zero energy communities. Avalon Housing is targeting Living Building Challenge net zero energy on their community building and THRIVE Collaborative is creating one the nation’s first Living Community Challenge Master Plans. It will be a 100% all-electric development, powered by solar with no gas lines or combustion appliances of any kind.

The Farmstead Commons at Veridian features a restored circa 1840s barn and the Honey Locust Farm Stop grocery store.

Meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Earth Institute and the United Nations included Veridian at County Farm for the Local Projects Challenge for Accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Veridian was one of only 17 Professional category projects from 11 countries highlighted as models for meeting the SDGs. The projects were recognized at World Urban Forum 10 in Abu Dhabi on February 12, 2020.
